RPMI-1640-Essential

Catalog Number: RPM-8010

Roswell Park Memorial Institute Medium 1640 (RPMI-1640) is commonly utilized for the cultivation of a variety of human cell types, including normal and cancerous leukocytes, as well as cell lines such as HeLa, Jurkat, MCF-7, PC12, PBMCs, astrocytes, carcinomas, bone
marrow cells, and hybridomas.

This medium is rich in phosphate, an essential nutrient for tumor cells, as they predominantly rely on glycolysis for energy production, especially in multicellular clusters. This metabolic adaptation is one of the key survival mechanisms employed by tumor cells.

Application:

RPMI-1640-Essential has proven to be effective for culturing a wide range of human cells, including both normal and cancerous leukocytes, as well as established lines such as HeLa, Jurkat, MCF-7, PC12, PBMCs, astrocytes, carcinomas, bone marrow cells, and hybridomas.

What sets RPMI-1640-Essential apart from other culture media, aside from its elevated pH level of 8, is its inclusion of biotin, vitamin B12, and para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Additionally, it features modified concentrations of amino acids and vitamins, with notably high levels of inositol and choline.
